We present to you an inspection description of a vision system for the inspection of lids for hot and cold beverages. The purpose of the application is to detect and eliminate contaminated or soiled lids.

The use of biomass is associated with a much higher number of inclusions of very different colours and shapes. The project described consisted of selecting the equipment, designing the components, creating the inspection and integrating the whole into an existing lid machine.

Due to the design of the machine, the vision system consists of two twin systems, where each is responsible for the inspection of two rows of product. Each lid is inspected from the top and each side, allowing 100% coverage of the top and sides of the product. Blue-coloured LED illuminators are responsible for proper illumination, which, combined with the characteristics of the defects, significantly improves their visibility. A pack of 6 inspection lids passes under each camera in approximately 1.2 seconds. The carefully selected components, together with the Adaptive Vision Studio software, have made it possible to integrate a reliable inspection that controls the manufactured part.
